Tomorrow our pal's at Gifted Children Records take over the Lower East Side for an evening that might be the most life changing event of the week. Why so life changing? Because any show with Indian Jewelry is worth checking out, as their sound somehow has found the middle ground between Hawkwind and Sun City Girls. I think I have been lucky enough to see them two times, and been pretty blow away each time. Here is a clip of them at SXSW last year at an abandoned mansion.
I think Bridez can be summed up as "lowest-fi." Totally filthy, Pussy Galore meets Royal Trux. A friend told me that he "would really like this if he really liked blown out garage shit with a hot girl singing."
Ummmmmm. Doesn't sound like a bad thing.
Maybe I just have stupid friends.
From the ashes of Phantom Limbs, one of the most insane live bands I have ever had the chance to witness, comes Loto Ball Show. This is a more concentrated version of insane. Just take everything good from the New York No Wave scene, and make it a big band.
They got a new record out on Gifted Children Records just like Bridez do.
The band I most want to see is Pocahaunted. I first heard of them when they did a split with Mythical Beast and was instantly blown away, simply because their music is total power.
Not like Morbid Angel blasting out of the speakers at a skate park power (thats a sweet sort of power. Totally different than this), but like two girls facing each other producing this crazy electric om sound.
Oh, and the guy from Silver Apples is DJing. You should walk up to him and give him money for simply being as the same room as you. Unless of course you can call yourself a pioneer. Which maybe you can, and in that case, congrats.
