Bloomsbury
Striking Peasant, 2008
Princeton's Bloomsbury is a four song cycle inspired by the Bloomsbury Group, an enormously talented and influential group of English artists, writers, and academics that included Virginia Woolf and John Maynard Keynes in it's ranks, among others. With Bloomsbury, it's second release, Princeton has nailed it's aesthetic as impressively as any young band has in much too long, using an airy pastoral palette to channel the beauty of unsparing intellectuality. Advance Reactionary alert: yes, it may be lazily and ignorantly dismissed as 'twee' or 'too Belle and Sebastian', but these uncritical anti-criticisms mean absolutely nothing.
