Summer Feelings in the Green Cathedral

This weeping birch tree is in the corner of Mill Creek Park's Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown, Ohio. It is taller than many apartments, and its leafy walls invite passionate declarations--and possibly some discreet nature love. The proliferation of carvings is mesmerizing, especially since a placard directly in front instructs visitors to refrain from carving on the tree (which allegedly inhibits the absorption of nutrients and water).

However, this mythic monolith clearly thrives off of the daydreams of humans, having little need for common nourishment, and inspiring "feelings" in its viewers.

(My favorite carving is this perplexing windmill to the left.)
