What Goes On? Pt. 1

October is days away. The future that lays ahead of us is both scary and intriguing.
As the days pass I must suggest the current records and songs for you to help you arrive at your destination (the future) comfortably.

Crystal Stilts :: Alight of Night

and

Cause Co-Motion :: It's Time

Listen :: "Baby Don't Do It"
If you take a look at he discography of Slumberland Records, you will see releases by Black Tambourine, Stereolab and Lilys on the label that stretches all the way back to the days when another George Bush was fucking things up at home. It's pretty safe to say the label knows what the hell they are doing. Not that a label with those sorts of releases needs to prove anything but what is the point of resting on your indie laurels?
In late October the label will be releasing the above mentioned records by the two Brooklyn bands whose names have seemed to dominate almost every single blog that has any clue as to what is going on and in the process may inject the records into the world that best define the current lo-fi revolution going on in the world.

Crystal Stilts building off the response to their self released EP present an eleven track offering full of slow burn gems. It's called Alight of Night and I think it's pretty swell.
The record makes one wonder what if Morrisey sang on the earliest Jesus and Mary Chain recordings while also capturing the most desperate notes captured in the garages of many teenagers in the 1960s.
Songs like the lead off track "The Dazzled" could have been released on Sarah Records in the mid-80's while "Graveyard Orbit" could almost be mistaken for either a Joy Division demo or a song on a Back From the Grave comp.
The term "instant classic" is usually stupid and misused but the reality is a record like this needs to be given the chance to have that stamp. The two words I can best use to describe it, fucking amazing.

After a few years of flying under the radar, It's Time collects the reverb laden anthems of one of the most exciting indie pop bands to come out in some time (aside from the band being mentioned above).
Cause Co-Motion has been talked about for some time now in very tight circles and this record shows why.
Much like Crystal Stilts, they bring a love and understanding of early to mid 1980's indie pop that drew inspiration from various source such as Spector Wall of Sound to the lustful moan of Sky Saxon of The Seeds.
It would have been a crime if any of these fourteen songs (of which none go over 2 minutes) didn't get this sort of documentation.
Thankfully now that is not the case

Brightblack Morning Light have taken the hippie-dippy-doo-dah stuff to a whole new astral plane with their newest record out on Matador.
You gotta know this duo smokes enough weed by the bush full which is totally fine as long as they continue to put out this music dictated by the Dark Side of My Bloody Valentine.

Random goodness by the Italian glammy/electro duo Chrisma. I am currently pushing back on the song "Black Silk Stocking" every time it comes up on my ITunes. Its lewd pulse must have been the soundtrack to some coke fueled parties in Milan towards the end of the 70's.

Coming out on the label that is all things head fucking, the group Wilderness hailing from Baltimore will be releasing the album (K)no(W)here in November.
As far as advanced praise goes, we can say that this album will make you a better person, or at least a person that thinks more. Which should be made obvious by the title of this album.
Somewhere along the lines of tribal drum banging and the sort of stuff people make when they finally break through that line invisible to the eye but is more of a frame of mind. It's pretty captivating stuff no matter how I try to describe it but it comes with a warning, this is the music that will challenge you. To some people, that equates to un-listenable, if that is the case I will forgive you, I have to however ask you to open your mind a bit and let the Wilderness in.

Is possible to be post-dance? I already mentioned the tired tag of "post-rock" why not add to the albatross?
Screw it. Since former !!! dude John Pugh and his partner in crime Madeline Davy have their project Free Blood, I am willing to lay it all on the line and say this label needs to be used more and people need to embrace more fucked up ways of dancing to this music.
Looking foolish be damned. Watch this video, create some new dance moves.

The intro song to Deerhunters upcoming beast, Microcastle.

Ministry's The Land of rape and Honey. I forgot how great this album was. Now I am left to ponder the following questions:
Where did I go wrong?
Am I now going right?

Whatever the case, this album is back in my life and I am a bit happy and a bit uncomfortable with that.
