Reviewed:Steve Von Till

A Grave is a Grim Horse
Neurot Recordings
I have owned no less than 4 Neurosis shirts in my life, and if I lost this one I have now, I would not even thing twice to buy another one. Why? Because Neurosis has kept it realer than real, and STILL put makes better stuff than 3 quarters of the chumps trying to make "heavy" music.

With that in mind, the guy who helped create the bleak, atmospheric doom that the band has been cranking out for about twenty years has put out his third solo album on the bands record label Neurot Recordings. On the third release, Von Till still writes and sings haunting folk that brings to mind the broken dark side of Americana. A much different affair than his full time band, but in some ways not that far off.
My guess is Von Till is aware that these days there is a market for this sort of stuff. Michael Gira in his post Swans life, Six Organs of Admittance, Mark Langdon have been proving that. But judging by his past work, I don't think Von Till cares much about a market.
